Now let's process a refund. I'll click the Refund button in the top right. The refund window opens. I'm entering 50 cents and selecting Phil's Terminal. When I click Refund, the terminal will prompt for tap or insert. One more thing to note — if you don't have the physical card but need to process a refund, there's also a blue input box on the terminal itself where you can manually key in the card number. The status badge now shows Partially Refunded. The amount shows 50 cents, with Requested $1 below it. In the Transactions panel on the right, there are now two entries — the original $1 capture and the $0.50 refund. Amount captured has been updated to 50 cents.
Quick Steps
Open the Payment Details page for the payment
Click Refund in the top right
Enter the refund amount — full amount for a full refund, or a lesser amount for a partial refund
Select a connected terminal to route the refund through
Click Refund — the terminal will prompt for tap or insert to capture card data
Once processed, the payment status and transaction list update automatically
Partial vs. Full Refunds
Partial refund — Enter an amount less than the total captured. The terminal prompts the customer to tap or insert their card.
Full refund — Enter the full captured amount. A terminal is still required to route the transaction.
No Physical Card Available?
If the card isn't present, use the manual entry option on the terminal itself. Tap the blue input box on the terminal screen to key in the card number directly.
After a Refund
Once processed, the Payment Details page updates to reflect:
Updated status badge — Partially Refunded or Refunded
Updated Amount Captured showing the net amount after the refund
A new entry in the Transactions panel showing the refund amount and timestamp
